Little Joshua

This is about the little boy named Joshua. 13 years ago, i was elceted as an SK(Sangguniang Kabataan) Chairman in our barangay. It was very hard on my part to let my studies and my obligation in our barangay joined together, but i was so lucky i made it through. Our term being an SK Chairman is now soon to end so we agreed to have an educational tour. We decided, along with the other SK Chairmen on respective barangay to have a tour just around Luzon. I never expect that this tour is the way that me and this boy named Joshua will cross our path. It was in the beautiful City of Tagaytay, the 2nd place to stop. We went to a rehabilitation center, (i just forgot the name of that center) of which i met Joshua. We go around inside the rehab, while the staff gathered some patients to tell us their stories on how they came into this institution. They let us come into a small chapel for a testimony sharing of which you are going to listen every stories of a certain person who is addicted to drugs. One of the storyteller is Joshua. He was just a 10 year old boy and in my part, it was so regretful to see such a kid who become an addict of a drug. After his testimony, i went to him and hug him tight and i never notice that teardrops went falling from my eyes. Then he ask "ATE BAKIT PO?" . I just said, "NANGHIHINAYANG LANG AKO SAYO NAPAKABATA MO PA PARA SA LUGAR NA TO". Then he started to cry of which i didnt expect. He just simply said "SORRY PO AH, AKO NA SIGURO ANG PINAKAMASAMANG BATA SA LAHAT, SANA MAWALA NA LANG AKO". That was the time i feel that he needs more comfort and love. I asked him about his parents and his family. He just told me, "WALA NA ATE, WALA NA AKONG PAMILYA SIGURO PINABAYAAN LANG NILA AKO DITO EH HINDI MAN LANG SILA BUMISITA SIMULA NUNG HINATID NILA AKO DITO. I really feel the pain inside Joshua's heart and i even cried harder. I dont knw how it came up to me to decide that when he will become fine and free from drugs i wil let him out of this place and bring him with me. I see spark from his eyes as if he is telling me that there is still hope and chance for his life. He just said "PROMISE MO YUN ATE HA? HIHINTAYIN KITA HA?" I really dont understand my feelings that time why i am so attached to this boy, maybe i am longing for a younger sibling but i know its not and i dont know why. I just answered him "PROMISE BASTA PAKABAIT KA DITO HA?" He smiled and then he pulled something from his pocket, it was bracelet made of shells. He puts it on, in my arm and said "HINDI KITA MAKAKALIMUTAN ATE, SANA NAGING TOTOONG ATE KITA" and hug me tight. Then the one staff ring a bell and said that visiting hour is over. Then he let go of me and wave goodbye. I just took the number of the Rehab Center and save it on my phonebook. I just want to make the story short, 3 years later after i graduated from college, i took another course and enrolled in a little-far school, maybe 3hours away from my hometown. I keep the bracelet in my closet at home and never put it on like 3 years after we went to Tagaytay. I was on a Mall when i decided to buy some groceries and stuff when in a sudden i heard someone calling my name. I look behind and i found a very familiar boy waving a hand. "SI JOSHUA!" i said in a snap. Because it was weekends, and a lot of people roam around inside the mall. As to my eagerness of seeing him, i went to where he stood up but found him nothing. So i took my phone out from my pocket and dirctly dial the Rehab Center to ask about Joshua. I was so shocked upon hearing the words from the other line "AY SI JOSHUA PO, WALA NA PO SYA MAM. NAGKASAKIT PO SYA NG PNEUMONIA AT NAMATAY 3 DAYS AGO" My knees are shaking and my tears is keep on falling. I went to my apartment and cried more but upon opening my room, the pain i felt become frightened, scared and dreadful when i see the bracelet which Josua gave to me. Until now it still wonders me how that bracelet came up to my apartment when actually i keep it on my closet at home and never use it. It still gives me a goosebumps and shivers everytime i reminisce about what happen. I am sorry Joshua, i hope you find peace in Gods arm..........END
